Personalised and supportive lessons designed to build confidence, skills and real progress.
I’m Mac Proffit, a private tutor based in King’s Lynn with nearly a decade of experience working across local schools. I’ve taught a wide range of subjects and year groups, and I specialise in one-to-one support that is calm, personalised and genuinely learner-centred.
My background in education includes English, Maths and Science, alongside experience teaching Functional Skills, ICT, PSHE and Citizenship. Working in diverse classroom settings has given me a strong understanding of how differently learners engage with education and how bright, capable students can struggle simply because the environment or approach doesn’t work for them.
I’m particularly experienced in supporting anxious, neurodivergent and disengaged learners, and my tutoring style reflects this. I focus on building trust first, reducing pressure and adapting lessons to the individual rather than forcing students into a rigid structure. Progress comes from confidence, not fear.
Alongside my teaching work, I’m currently studying Child Psychology and counselling, which informs a trauma-aware, emotionally intelligent approach to education. This allows me to support not just academic development, but also motivation, self-belief and emotional regulation around learning.
I work with children, young people and adults, offering both online and in-person sessions. Whether the goal is exam preparation, Functional Skills, confidence-building or re-engaging with learning after a difficult experience, my aim is always the same: to make learning feel safe, manageable, and achievable.
About Me
What I Offer…
Personalised 1:1 Tutoring
I offer one-to-one tutoring in English, Maths and Science, tailored to each learner’s needs, pace and confidence. Sessions are calm, structured and supportive, with a strong focus on building understanding rather than pressure or rote learning.
I work with KS3, GCSE and Functional Skills students, and I am experienced in supporting SEN and neurodivergent learners, including those who are anxious, disengaged or have had difficult experiences with education. I also offer support for adult learners who may be returning to education or working towards qualifications.
How Sessions Work
Lessons are fully personalised and adapt over time as confidence and skills grow. I draw on my classroom experience and current studies in child psychology and counselling to create a learning environment where students feel safe, respected and capable.
Sessions are available online or in person in King’s Lynn. A free 30-minute consultation is offered before starting to ensure the right fit and to discuss goals.
1:1 tutoring sessions are £35 per hour with limited concessionary rates available by arrangement.
